Travel with us on a relaxing discovery of neighboring Bosnia-Herzegovina, a 6-day slow travel tour crafted for seniors, mature travelers, and solo adventurers who appreciate history, sightseeing, local food and drinks, and scenic drives without hurry. Following the Slow Tourism philosophy with no rush and no tight schedules, this all-seasons journey takes you from the Dalmatian coast deep into the heart of Bosnia, where you will encounter thundering waterfalls, sacred pilgrimage sites, iconic UNESCO bridges, vibrant capital city, stunning national park scenery, historic wineries, fascinating cave systems, and impressive fortresses.

Experience cultural aspects of Bosnian and Croatian heritage, admire scenic roads through the Sutjeska National Park, sample local food and drinks at family-owned wineries, and let the region's rich history unfold before you. This tour combines well-known destinations like Mostar and Sarajevo with off-the-beaten-path hidden gems such as the Tvrdos winery, the Vjetrenica cave, and the famous Ston walls on the return journey. Day after day description

Day 1. We depart from Split and cross into Bosnia-Herzegovina, first visiting the spectacular Kravica waterfalls, a natural amphitheater of cascades on the Trebizat River, ideal for swimming and photography. We then continue to Medjugorje, a world-famous Roman Catholic pilgrimage center that has attracted millions of visitors since reported apparitions began in 1981. Our journey proceeds to the iconic city of Mostar to explore its famous historical center (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and admire the reconstructed 16th-century Stari Most (Old Bridge), a powerful symbol of reconciliation. We will stay overnight in Mostar.

Day 2. After staying in Mostar, we take a short drive to Blagaj to visit the stunning Dervish monastery (Tekija) (UNESCO Tentative List Site), a 16th-century Sufi (Islamic) retreat dramatically built at the source of the emerald Buna River. We then travel to the enchanting Ottoman-era hill town of Pocitelj (UNESCO Tentative List Site), renowned for its beautifully preserved stone architecture and panoramic views. Our day concludes at Podrumi Andrija, a family-owned winery where we will sample excellent local vintages, a true delight for lovers of local food and drinks. After that, we will return to Mostar for accommodation.

Day 3. After 2 nights in Mostar, we travel to Konjic to see its iconic Old Stone Bridge from the 17th century. We then continue to Sarajevo, the captivating capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina, and explore the city's historical center (UNESCO Tentative List Site), a vibrant mosaic of Eastern and Western influences. We visit the Gazi Husrev-beg museum, wander through the bustling Bascarsija old bazaar, and admire the elegant Sebilj fountain. Our accommodation for the night is in Sarajevo.

Day 4. After staying in Sarajevo, we travel to the poignant Tunnel of Hope museum, a preserved underground passage that served as a vital lifeline during the city's siege in the 1990s. We then enjoy a scenic drive through the stunning Sutjeska National Park, one of Bosnia's oldest and most beautiful protected areas, before continuing to Trebinje to see the elegant Arslanagic Bridge from the 16th century. After that, we will come to Trebinje for accommodation.

Day 5. After staying in Trebinje, we travel to Tvrdos to explore its Serbian Orthodox monastery, originally founded in the 15th century, and sample local wines at its winery. We return to Trebinje to visit the hilltop Hercegovacka Gracanica church with its panoramic views, explore the charming historical center, and see the Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Cathedral. We stay another night in Trebinje.

Day 6. After 2 nights in Trebinje, we explore the fascinating Vjetrenica cave system (UNESCO World Heritage Site), renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity and spectacular underground formations. We then cross back into Croatia and travel to Ston to see its impressive fortress and the famous Ston walls, a monumental 5-kilometer defensive system built by the Republic of Ragusa in the 14th-15th centuries, often called the 'European Wall of China'. Finally, we return to Split, where our memorable journey concludes.

Mostar, beautiful and historical town, located only 60 km away from the Adriatic Sea, is the cultural, political and financial center of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Its diversity and architecture make it truly special. The Old Bridge, built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, is one of Bosnia-Herzegovina's most recognizable landmarks, added to UNESCO's World Heritage list in 2005, and is considered one of the most exemplary pieces of Islamic architecture in the Balkans.

Blagaj, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Blagaj is a village in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of Bosnia-Herzegovina, located in about 15 km from Mostar, and is one of the most valuable mixed urban and rural built environments in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Blagaj has eleven national monuments, and is famous for the spring of the Buna river coming from cave, historical Dervish monastery (tekija) built around 1520, and medieval fortress Blagaj Fort, town-fortress complex built on a 310 meters high karst hill. Blagaj is also known as a residential area of Bosnian rulers and royal families.

Počitelj (Pocitelj), Bosnia and Herzegovina

Pocitelj is a small Ottoman-Mediterranean settlement, built along the Neretva river, conveniently located on the major road between Dubrovnik and Mostar. The walled town of Pocitelj evolved in the period from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Architecturally, the stone-constructed parts of the town are a fortified complex, in which two stages of evolution are evident: medieval and Ottoman.

Podrumi Andrija, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Podrumi (winery) Andrija is nestled in the scenic village of Paoča, which lies in the heart of the Herzegovina wine region, within the municipality of Čitluk. This area is part of the broader Brotnjo plateau, a region historically renowned for viticulture since the time of the Bosnian kings in the 14th century. The winery is situated just 16 kilometers south of the famous city of Mostar and just a few kilometers from the world-famous pilgrimage site of Međugorje.

The famous monastery Tvrdos, located about five kilometers from Trebinje, dates back to the Middle Ages and it is believed that it was founded by the Czar, Saint Constantine, and his mother Saint Helen. Ston, Croatia

Ston was a major fort of the Ragusan Republic whose defensive walls were regarded as a notable feat of medieval architecture. The town's inner wall measures 890 metres in length, while the Great Wall outside the town has a circumference of 5 km. The walls extend to Mali Ston (Little Ston), a smaller town on the northern side of the isthmus and the end of the Bay of Mali Ston, notable for its mariculture.
