Traveling the mainland of Greece, we will visit important archaeological sites, impressive cathedrals and monasteries, museums, fortresses, some of which are UNESCO sites. In area of Preveza, we will visit the Necromanteion of Acheron (oracle of the dead), an unusual site with an ancient Greek temple of necromancy devoted to Hades and Persephone. Another place to visit is the archaeological site Cassope, a magnificent and remote site on a high platform overlooking the sea. In Arta, we will explore the archaeological museum and walk over the impressive four-arched stone bridge known from Roman times. On the way from Arta to Nafpaktos, we will come to see the Messolonghi lagoon. In Nafpaktos, we will see the Nafpaktos fortress, see the small port that witnessed several battles, and after we will take a ferry to Patras to see there the Holy Church of Saint Andrew, the biggest church in Greece, a Byzantine-style basilica with 13 domes. After an overnight stay in the coastal town of Loutraki, we will explore ancient Mycenae (UNESCO World Heritage site), an important archaeological site from around the 12th century BC, and its museum. The next day we will explore medieval structures in Livadeia and visit the very important monastery Hosios Loukas (UNESCO World Heritage site). After overnight in Delphi, we will explore the famous archaeological site and museum in Delphi (UNESCO World Heritage site). On the way from Delphi to Kalampaka, we will salute to King Leonidas in Thermopylae. In Kalampaka, we will climb steps of several Meteora monasteries (UNESCO World Heritage site). After Meteora, we will visit the town of Larissa, known for its impressive archaeological museum and ancient theater. The same day, we will come to admire great Mount Olympus and learn how it was explored during the ages. The next attraction is the very important archaeological site Aegae (also called Vergina). Aegae (UNESCO World Heritage site) was the first capital of the Macedonian kingdom and the burial place for their kings, considered to be one of the biggest and most significant places of classical Greece. After Aegae, on the way back to Igoumenitsa, we will come to see Ioannina with its Ottoman castle, Silversmith Museum of Weapons and Jewelry, and archaeological site Dodoni with its huge ancient theater (UNESCO Tentative List site).
