Introduction

Embark on a captivating 6-day discovery tour from Dubrovnik to Sarajevo, exploring the medieval soul of Bosnia-Herzegovina along scenic roads less traveled. We will guide you through the sun-drenched landscapes of Herzegovina and into the heart of the capital, experiencing UNESCO World Heritage Sites, spectacular cave systems, thundering waterfalls, and the poignant legacy of Sarajevo. This is an invitation to discover a country where East meets West, and where every turn reveals a new chapter in its fascinating story.


Day after day description

Day 1. We depart Dubrovnik and cross into Bosnia-Herzegovina, traveling to the Tvrdos Monastery. This Serbian Orthodox monastery, originally founded in the 15th century, offers a peaceful spiritual atmosphere and the opportunity to sample local wines at its winery. We then continue to Trebinje to see its iconic Arslanagica Bridge from the 16th century, visit the hilltop Hercegovacka Gracanica church with its panoramic views and explore the charming historical center. Our accommodation for the night is in Trebinje.

Day 2. After staying in Trebinje, we travel to the fascinating Vjetrenica cave system (UNESCO World Heritage Site), renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity and spectacular underground formations. We then see the nearby Zavala monastery, an Eastern Orthodox site. Our journey continues to the remarkable medieval stecci (tombstone) necropolis at Radimlja (UNESCO World Heritage Site) from the 15th-16th centuries. Our final stop is the ancient hilltop fortress at Stolac (UNESCO Tentative List Site). After that, we will come to Mostar for accommodation.

Day 3. After an overnight in Mostar, we explore the city's famous historical center (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the reconstructed 16th-century Stari Most (Old Bridge). We then enjoy a tasting at the Podrumi Andrija winery, sampling local Herzegovinian vintages. Our day continues to Medjugorje, a world-renowned Roman Catholic pilgrimage center since 1981. After that, we will return to Mostar for accommodation.

Day 4. After staying in Mostar, we travel to the enchanting Ottoman-era hill town of Pocitelj (UNESCO Tentative List Site), renowned for its preserved stone architecture. We then visit the spectacular Kravica waterfalls, a natural amphitheater of cascades on the Trebizat River. After that, we will return to Mostar for accommodation.

Day 5. After 3 nights in Mostar, we take a short drive to Blagaj to visit the stunning Dervish monastery (Tekija) (UNESCO Tentative List Site), a 16th-century Sufi (Islamic) retreat dramatically built at the source of the emerald Buna River. We then travel to Konjic to see its iconic Old Stone Bridge from the 17th century. Our journey continues to Sarajevo, where we visit the poignant Tunnel of Hope museum, a testament to the city's resilience during the 1990s siege. We will stay in Sarajevo.

Day 6. After staying in Sarajevo, we explore the city's historical center (UNESCO Tentative List Site), a vibrant blend of Eastern and Western cultures. We ascend via the charming funicular for panoramic views and visit the city's cathedral. Our memorable journey concludes in Sarajevo.

The Zavala monastery is an important and old Serbian Orthodox monastery located in the village of Zavala, on the eastern part of Popovo Polje, in Herzegovina, about 50 km west of the city of Trebinje. Podrumi (winery) Andrija is nestled in the scenic village of Paoča, which lies in the heart of the Herzegovina wine region, within the municipality of Čitluk. This area is part of the broader Brotnjo plateau, a region historically renowned for viticulture since the time of the Bosnian kings in the 14th century. The winery is situated just 16 kilometers south of the famous city of Mostar and just a few kilometers from the world-famous pilgrimage site of Međugorje.

Blagaj is a village in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of Bosnia-Herzegovina, located in about 15 km from Mostar, and is one of the most valuable mixed urban and rural built environments in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Blagaj has eleven national monuments, and is famous for the spring of the Buna river coming from cave, historical Dervish monastery (tekija) built around 1520, and medieval fortress Blagaj Fort, town-fortress complex built on a 310 meters high karst hill. Blagaj is also known as a residential area of Bosnian rulers and royal families.



Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Known for bridge, river

The town is one of the oldest permanent settlements in Bosnia-Herzegovina (dating back almost 4000 years), and home to the iconic Konjic Old Stone Bridge, constructed in 1683 during the Ottoman era. Konjic is also famous for its woodcarving tradition. Konjic natural heritage together with the cultural heritage represent rich and valuable resources for Bosnia-Herzegovina as well as Europe.

The Tunnel of Hope educates on 1990s Balkan conflicts, particularly on the siege of Sarajevo, often overlooked in mainstream history. Built secretly using shovels by Bosnian forces, the Tunnel facilitated the transport of food, fuel, weapons, and humanitarian aid.
