Introduction

Discover the profound beauty and rich heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina on this comprehensive 5-day circle tour from Sarajevo. Designed as a year-round journey, this itinerary takes you through the heart of Herzegovina, exploring its most iconic UNESCO sites, spiritual landmarks, and breathtaking natural wonders.

We will guide you on a captivating route that includes the legendary city of Mostar, the mystical Dervish monastery of Blagaj, the ancient hilltown of Pocitelj, the revered pilgrimage site of Medjugorje, the stunning Kravica waterfalls, and the subterranean marvels of Vjetrenica Cave. Day after day description

Day 1. We depart Sarajevo and travel to the Tunnel of Hope Museum, a poignant testament to the city's siege in the 1990s. We then proceed to Konjic to see its iconic Old Stone Bridge, originally constructed in the 17th century. Our journey continues to Mostar to explore its famous historical center (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the reconstructed 16th-century Stari Most (Old Bridge). Our accommodation for the night is in Mostar.

Day 2. After staying in Mostar, we travel to Blagaj to visit the stunning Dervish monastery (Tekija) (UNESCO Tentative List Site), a 16th-century Sufi (Islamic) retreat. We then visit the remarkable medieval stecci (tombstone) necropolis at Radimlja (UNESCO World Heritage Site) from the 15th-16th centuries. We continue to the enchanting Ottoman-era hill town of Pocitelj (UNESCO Tentative List Site). After that, we will return to Mostar for accommodation.

Day 3. After an overnight in Mostar, we travel to Zitomislic to visit its serene Serbian Orthodox monastery, originally founded in the 16th century. We then visit the magnificent Kravica waterfalls, a natural amphitheater of cascades on the Trebizat River. Our day continues to Medjugorje, a world-renowned Roman Catholic pilgrimage center since reported apparitions began in 1981. After that, we will return to Mostar for accommodation.

Day 4. After 3 nights in Mostar, we travel to Stolac to explore its ancient hilltop fortress (UNESCO Tentative List Site) with origins from the 5th century. We then discover the fascinating Vjetrenica cave system (UNESCO World Heritage Site), renowned for its unique biodiversity and geological formations. We visit the nearby Zavala monastery, an Eastern Orthodox site with a historic church located in cave. Afterwards, we will come to Trebinje for accommodation.

Day 5. After staying in Trebinje, we travel to Tvrdos to explore its Serbian Orthodox monastery, originally founded in the 15th century, and sample local wines at its winery. We return to Trebinje to see its iconic Arslanagica Bridge from the 16th century and explore its charming historical center. Our journey will continue with a scenic drive through the stunning landscapes of Sutjeska National Park before returning to Sarajevo.

Blagaj, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Blagaj is a village in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of Bosnia-Herzegovina, located in about 15 km from Mostar, and is one of the most valuable mixed urban and rural built environments in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Blagaj has eleven national monuments, and is famous for the spring of the Buna river coming from cave, historical Dervish monastery (tekija) built around 1520, and medieval fortress Blagaj Fort, town-fortress complex built on a 310 meters high karst hill. Blagaj is also known as a residential area of Bosnian rulers and royal families.

Radimlja, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Radimlja is a main UNESCO World Heritage Site where is possible to see so called Stecci, a monumental medieval tombstones. Radimlja necropolis located near town Stolac, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is one of the most valuable monuments of the medieval period in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Počitelj (Pocitelj), Bosnia and Herzegovina

Počitelj is a small Ottoman-Mediterranean settlement, built along the Neretva river, conveniently located on the major road between Dubrovnik and Mostar. The walled town of Počitelj evolved in the period from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Architecturally, the stone-constructed parts of the town are a fortified complex, in which two stages of evolution are evident: medieval and Ottoman.

The famous monastery Tvrdos, located about five kilometers from Trebinje, dates back to the Middle Ages and it is believed that it was founded by the Czar, Saint Constantine, and his mother Saint Helen.
