During the classical times at 48 BC, Julius Caesar during his pursuit of Pompey, set foot and rested his legion at Palasë. He continued onto Llogara Pass in a place later named Caesar's Pass. Yes, we talk here about that Gaius Julius Caesar, the Roman general and statesman, a member of the First Triumvirate, who led the Roman armies in the Gallic Wars before defeating his political rival Pompey in a civil war, and subsequently became dictator of Rome at 49 BC and played a critical role in the events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire. Around 1627-1633 a first Greek-language school was founded in Dhermi. At November 5, 1912, when the nearby town of Himara was controlled by the Greek forces of the local major Spyros Spyromilios, armed groups from Dhermi declared that they were prepared to assist his movement for the incorporation of the rest of the region into Greece. Nowadays, the inhabitants of Dhermi mainly speak a variant of the Greek Himariote dialect, characterized by archaic features not retained in standard Greek.
