Livadeia description
Homer refers to Livadeia with its former name, Mideia. Livadeia participated in the War of Troy and became famous due to the Oracle of Trofonios Zeus. This is a mountainous town in central Greece, the commercial and financial center of the region.
The Medieval Castle with its long wall, overlooking the modern town of Levadeia, the Erkynas river, the Oracle Trophonius, the Trichino Bridge, the charming arched stone bridge at the springs of Krya are just few examples of interesting and beautiful sights not to miss here. Livadia is worth the visit while you are on your way to reach the winter destination of Arachova (30 km), the Archaeological Site of Delphi (40 km), a listed UNESCO's World Heritage Site or the Monastery of Hosios Loukas (25 km), an UNESCO's World Heritage Site as well.
The springs of Krya, specially recommended, provides such peaceful and gorgeous landscape. Large trees, thick vegetation, small waterfalls with clean crystal water, stone bridges, well kept paved paths, and the watermills make this scenery so lovely. This is the most popular leisure spot in the town. You will have a relaxing stroll enjoying the nature, in a delightful location, regardless the time of the year. Although, spring is probably the best season to visit this spot in order to see the nature at its best. Also, there are lots of nice cafes and restaurants nearby where you can sit and listen the relaxing sound of running water.
